Stand firm and imitate the Lord
Polycarp is addressing the Philippian community directly, urging them to stand firm in faith and imitate the Lord's example in their conduct toward one another and toward outsiders.
Stand firm, then, in these things, and follow the example of the Lord—unshaken in faith, lovers of the brotherhood, devoted to one another, joined together in truth, waiting for one another in the gentleness of the Lord, and looking down on no one.
When you are able to do good, do not put it off, because almsgiving frees from death (Tobit 4:10). All of you be subject to one another, and keep your conduct blameless among the gentiles, so that through your good works you may receive praise and the Lord may not be blasphemed because of you.
But woe to the one through whom the name of the Lord is blasphemed. Teach everyone, then, the self-control in which you yourselves also live.
Latin
In his ergo state et domini exemplar sequimini, firmi in fide et immutabiles, fraternitatis amatores, diligentes invicem, in veritate sociati, mansuetudine domini alterutri praestolantes, nullum despicientes.
