Repent while the day of judgment approaches

The preacher has just warned that the words of the promise bring condemnation to those who refuse to listen, and now urges the congregation to seize the opportunity for repentance before judgment arrives.

So then, brothers and sisters, we have received no small opportunity to repent. Since we still have time, let us turn to the God who called us, while the one who accepts us is still available to us.

For if we renounce these pleasures and master our soul by refusing to carry out its evil desires, we will share in the mercy of Jesus.

You know that the day of judgment is already coming like a burning oven. Some of the heavens will melt, and all the earth will melt like lead in a fire. Then the hidden and visible deeds of human beings will be exposed.

Almsgiving is good, then, as repentance for sin. Fasting is better than prayer, but almsgiving is better than both. Love covers a multitude of sins, and prayer from a good conscience rescues from death. Blessed is everyone who is found full of these things, for almsgiving becomes a relief from sin.
