Ignatius is writing to the Magnesians, arguing that Christians must no longer live according to Judaism but according to Christ, who is the new hope.

If those who lived in the old ways came to a new hope, no longer keeping the Sabbath but living according to the Lord's day, on which our life also dawned through him and through his death, a death some deny, through which mystery we received faith, and because of this we endure, so that we may be found disciples of Jesus Christ, our only teacher, then how will we be able to live without him? Even the prophets, who were his disciples in the Spirit, awaited him as their teacher. And because of this, the one whom they righteously awaited came and raised them from the dead.
