The rich need a trainer of the soul
Clement is addressing the rich person directly, telling him to submit to a man of God as trainer and pilot, and to accept rebuke, because repentance must be sincere and God sees the heart.
So then, you who are proud and powerful and rich must by all means set over yourself some man of God, as a pilot and a steersman. Respect at least one person; fear at least one person; practice listening to at least one person who speaks boldly and stings and heals at the same time. For it is not good for the eyes to remain unrestrained forever; sometimes they must weep and be bitten for the sake of greater health. In the same way, nothing is more destructive to the soul than continuous pleasure, for it is blinded by its own wasting away if it remains unmoved by the word that speaks boldly. Fear this man when he is angry, be grieved when he groans, respect him when he puts a stop to anger, and get ahead of him when he pleads for punishment to be averted. Let him stay awake many nights on your behalf, interceding for you before God and charming the Father with his accustomed supplications, for he his heart cannot hold out against his children when they beg. He will pray purely if he is honored by you as an angel of God and is not grieved by you in anything, but only on your behalf. This is unfeigned repentance. God is not mocked, nor does he attend to empty words, for he alone examines the marrows and kidneys of the heart, and he hears those in the fire and listens to those begging in the belly of the sea-monster, and he is near to all who believe and far from the godless, unless they repent.
