Victorinus of Pettau — On the Creation of the World (opening)
As I am thinking and conferring with my own mind concerning the fabric of this world in which we are kept enclosed, such also is the speed of that fabric, as is contained in the book of Moses which he wrote about its founding, which is called Genesis. God expressed this whole mass in six days for the adornment of His majesty; on the seventh He consecrated it with a blessing. Therefore, because by the septenary number of days both heavenly and earthly things are ruled, I will measure from this seventh as a starting point toward all the septenary regions, and as far as I am able I will try to express the day's power unto that consummation.
