If a pastor has confessed, he has doubled the contest. But the apostle orders such to be teachers: let the ruler be patient; let him know where to loosen the reins; let him terrify first and afterward anoint with honey; and let him watch first that he himself do what he says. A pastor keeping worldly things is rendered in fault — against whose face you would dare say anything. Rumor itself of Gehenna boils in hell: woe to the wretched people that perhaps wavers in doubt! If such a pastor is at hand, near-lost ruin threatens; but a devoted one holds her, governing rightly; for she is gladdened in soul by kings fit for her. In such is hope, and the whole church lives.

Latin

68 PASTORIBUS DEI.
