Ignatius of Antioch — Epistle to the Smyrnaeans (Chapter 12. Salutations)
Greetings to you from the love of the brothers in Troas. It is from Troas, too, that I write to you, by means of Burrhus. You sent him with me, along with the Ephesians, your brothers, and he has given me rest at every turn. If only all would imitate him, for he is a pattern of service to God! Grace will repay him in all things.
My greetings go to the bishop worthy of God, to the presbytery fit for God, and to my fellow servants the deacons; to all of you, one by one and all together, in the name of Jesus Christ, in his flesh and his blood, in his passion and his resurrection, of flesh and of spirit alike, in the oneness of God and of you. Grace be with you, and mercy, peace, and endurance, at all times.
