Fragments on the Psalms (Greek) · §57

Psalm 11:6 — from the misery of the poor I will now arise, says the Lord

“From the misery of the poor, and from the groaning of the needy, I will now arise, says the Lord; I will place in salvation, I will speak freely in him” (Psalm 11:6).

If from the misery of the poor I will now arise, he says, says the Lord, who has not feared the Lord arising? And: “Arise, Lord my God, be exalted”? Let us pray away such an exaltation, and not wish to see a hand being lifted against the disobedient, still more being sent upon the harder ones. And he did not forget the cry of the needy, and the poor will not be forgotten to the end.

Or also thus: the poor through me and having become needy by your spirit, always groan being humbled, attending to my word, and preserving unswerving faith; for whose sake I will arise, and according to what is fitting, by my resurrection I will place salvation for all men.
