Commendation of Philo and Rheus Agathopus, and greetings from Troas
Ignatius is closing his letter to the Smyrnaeans, commending two companions who have served him and sending greetings from the brothers in Troas.
Now about Philo, the deacon from Cilicia. He is a man of attested character, and even now he serves me in the word of God together with Rheus Agathopus, a chosen man who has followed me from Syria after renouncing his former life. Both of them bear witness to you, and I thank God on your behalf because you welcomed them as the Lord welcomed you. As for those who dishonored them, may they be redeemed in the grace of Jesus Christ.
The love of the brothers and sisters in Troas greets you. It is from there that I am writing to you through Burrhus, who was sent with me by the Ephesians and Smyrnaeans as a mark of honor. The Lord Jesus Christ will honor them, for in him they hope with flesh, soul, spirit, faith, love, and concord. Farewell in Christ Jesus, our common hope.
