The Incarnation and Universal Care§1
1Not only man, but also God, as the prophet Jeremiah says: 'Is this not the Lord our God, who will not be counted as another beside Him?' (Jeremiah 32:27). He discovered every way of knowledge and gave it to Jacob his child and to Israel, the one beloved by him. After these things, He appeared upon the earth and lived among men.
But when did He live among men, if not when He was born with them from a virgin, and shared in their life, and grew up, and ate with them, and drank with them, and the other things?
For if it is necessary to offer prayers, he says, on behalf of the universal Church from the ends of the inhabited world, much more it is necessary to demonstrate providence for all of it, and likewise to grieve and to care for all things.
