Commentary on Psalm 92
Commentarius in Psalmum 92
The Nature of the Anointed§1
1Therefore, if indeed the Anointed proves God, whose throne was said to be eternal, the one who anointed is clearly God by nature, having been born of God; but the one anointed has acquired virtue through the judgment of a divine craft, being adorned by the divinity that dwells in him.
In short, the prophet Isaiah, having passed through the traces of his sufferings, brings them to others and cries out this more loudly: 'We saw him, yet he had neither appearance nor beauty; but his appearance was without value and lacking among the sons of men' (Isaiah 53:2).
Then he shines forth brokenly as if toward man, but the forms and the sufferings of elegance do not rise toward the divine.

The instability of the impious man§§2–4
2I have brought him down again, adding this: A man who is in affliction and knows how to bear weakness. 37 Again, this one is shameless after insults, having been seen shapeless, then again having clothed himself in beauty through change. For God, who dwells in him, did not lead him to the judgment of a lamb unto death, nor was he slaughtered according to the manner of a ram, being naturally invisible.
3He brings them again, adding: 'A man who is in affliction and knows how to bear softness' (Psalm 38:11).
Again, this one is silent after insults, appearing formless, then again clothing himself in elegance through change.
For God, dwelling in him, did not lead the inhabitant to the judgment of a lamb unto death, nor was he slaughtered according to the way of a ram, being naturally invisible.
4He brings them back again, adding: 'A man who is in affliction and knows how to bear weakness' (Psalm 106:36).
Again, this one is shameless after the insults, appearing formless, then again putting on elegance through change.
For God, dwelling in him, did not lead him to the judgment of a lamb toward death, nor was he slaughtered according to the manner of a ram, being naturally invisible.
