Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho 41
The offering of fine flour, gentlemen, was said to be presented on behalf of those being cleansed from leprosy. It served as a type of the bread of the Eucharist, which Jesus Christ our Lord commanded us to perform in remembrance of the passion he endured on behalf of those being cleansed in their souls from all human wickedness, so that we might at once give thanks to God for having brought the world into being with all that it contains for the sake of humanity, for having freed us from the evil in which we were ensnared, and for having brought the rulers and authorities to nothing through the suffering that came to pass according to his will.
Therefore, concerning the sacrifices you were offering at that time, God says — as I mentioned before — through Malachi, one of the twelve: "I have no pleasure in you," says the Lord, "and I will not accept your sacrifices from your hands. For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is glorified among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name and a pure sacrifice, for my name is great among the nations," says the Lord, "but you profane it" (Malachi 1:10-11). And concerning the sacrifices we Gentiles now offer to him in every place — that is, the bread of the Eucharist and likewise the cup of the Eucharist — he spoke beforehand, declaring that we glorify his name while you profane it.
The commandment of circumcision, which orders that every male be circumcised on the eighth day, was a type of the true circumcision by which we have been circumcised from deception and wickedness through Jesus Christ our Lord, who rose from the dead on the first day of the week. For the first day of the week, though it is the first of all days, is also called the eighth according to the reckoning of all the days of the cycle, and it remains the first.
