Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho 87

Justin Martyr · c. 100–c. 165 AD

The Word does not say these numbered powers of the Spirit came upon him as though he lacked them, but as about to make their rest upon him — that is, to make an end in him — so that prophets would no longer arise in your nation according to the old custom, which you can also see with your eyes: for after him no prophet at all has arisen among you.
