Ignatius of Antioch, Epistle to the Philadelphians 3
Stay clear of the bad weeds. Jesus Christ does not tend them, for they are not the Father's planting (Matthew 15:13). Not that I found division among you; I found a sifting.
All who are God's and Jesus Christ's are with the bishop. And all who repent and enter the unity of the church will be God's too, so that they may live according to Jesus Christ.
Do not be deceived, my brothers: if anyone follows a man who splits the church, he does not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9–10). If anyone walks in an alien mind, he does not consent to the Passion.
