Ignatius of Antioch, To the Ephesians 9

Ignatius of Antioch · d. c. 110 AD

I have heard that some people passed your way from there, carrying bad teaching. You would not let them sow it among you. You stopped your ears so as not to take in what they were sowing. For you are stones of the Father's temple, made ready for the building of God the Father (1 Corinthians 3:9). You are lifted to the heights by the crane of Jesus Christ, which is the cross, and you use the Holy Spirit as your rope. Your faith is the winch that raises you, and love is the road that climbs to God.

So you are all companions in one procession: God-bearers and temple-bearers, Christ-bearers, bearers of holy things, dressed at every point in the commandments of Jesus Christ. Rejoicing in all this, I have been counted worthy to talk with you through what I write and to share your joy, because in this human life you love nothing but God alone.
