Commodian — Instructiones 53
The souls of the damned deservedly separate themselves; from him who shelters them they run back again to what is theirs. The Canaanite root, a cursed seed, breaks out and flees into a servile nation under a barbarian king — those the eternal flame will torment on the decreed day. The profane wants to wander without discipline, to rage through the jaws of the roads loosed from law. Such then are these whom no penalty has forced: if they refuse to withdraw from idols, they ought to be spit out.
