Commodian — Instructiones 51
For deserters are not said of one kind: one is worthless, another withdraws in part, but still true judgments decide on both. See — one soldiers for Christ as for Caesar: obey. Seek the King’s refuge if you were an offender; implore him, confess to him prostrate: he will grant all things, whose also all ours are. Restored to the camp, beware of offending further. Do not wander long, soldier, through the dens of beasts. Let it be for you a vast deed to cease from sinning.
Latin
51 DESERTORES. Desertores enim genere non uno dicunt<ur>: Est alius nequam, alius in parte secedat, Sed tamen utroque iudicia uera decernunt. Ecce militatur Christo sicut Caesari: paret. Refugium Regis pete, si delictor fuisti; Tu illum inplora, prostratus illi fatere: Omnia concedet, cuius sunt et omnia nostra. Repositus castris ulterius caue delinquas. Errare noli diu miles per spelaea ferarum. Sit tibi pro peccare desistere gestum inmensum.
