Polycarp has withdrawn to a country place outside the city to pray while men are searching for him to arrest him.

As the men searching for him kept at it, he moved to another small country place. They arrived there at once, and when they did not find him, they seized two little boys. One of them confessed while under torture. He could not possibly escape notice, for even those who betrayed him belonged to his own household (Matthew 10:36).

The police chief who bore the same name, called Herod, then hurried to bring him into the stadium, so that he might complete his own appointed lot by sharing in Christ, and those who betrayed him might suffer the same punishment as Judas.

Greek

VI.
