Let every sensible person weigh this and laugh at hostility to a speech being displayed under the name of silence. You therefore admit that I said nothing you can refute.
Latin source witness
Latin Expendat hoc prudentia omnis, et rideat orationis invidiam nomine taciturnitatis ostensam. Confiteris igitur me nihil dixisse quod possis arguere.
About this text Julian wrote in the early 400s, in the fight over Pelagius. This is later than the first three centuries of the church.
Julian’s six preserved books to Florus, quoted section by section in Augustine’s unfinished reply. Augustine’s refutations are omitted. Latin of Julian’s words is on each section.
Julian’s own books do not survive as a separate manuscript. English follows his words as Augustine quotes them in the Unfinished Work Against Julian. Augustine’s replies are omitted. We do not restore a Julian text independent of Augustine.
