And yet—how wretched human error is!—when I consider the very subject of our dispute, I am shaken by overwhelming grief. Could this really have come into doubt? Could this cause have needed defending? Could churches professing belief in Christ, I ask, really have doubted whether God judges justly—that is, reasonably?
