‘If human nature were evil,’ you say, ‘it ought not to be saved; if no evil were within it, it would not need to be saved’ (Augustine, Marriage and Sexual Desire 2.36). What have you shown except that one thing ought to be saved for the very reason you had denied that it ought to be saved?
